
Severe thunderstorm watches and warnings are in place in the Maritimes Thursday morning.
Environment Canada says meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing heavy rain and and strong wind gusts.
New Brunswick
A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for Moncton and southeast New Brunswick.
“Heavy showers and thunderstorms are possible this morning as they move off the Bay of Fundy, some of these storms may move north towards Moncton,” the watch reads.
Rainfall rates of up to 25 mm/h are expected, though they may possibly be higher in thunderstorms.
A severe thunderstorm warning in Fundy National Park, Saint John and County in place early Thursday morning has ended.
Nova Scotia
In Nova Scotia, a severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for Yarmouth, Shelburne and Queens County as well as Cumberland and northern Colchester counties.
The watch says rainfall rates of up to 30 mm/h could be possible, though they may be higher in thunderstorms.
A severe thunderstorm warning is also in place in Digby County and Yarmouth County.
Cumberland and northern Colchester counties are also under rainfall warnings where rain, at times heavy, is expected.
“A series of thundershowers gave 40 millimetres of rain in a few hours to the region and more rain and thundershowers are expected this morning as additional thundershowers are moving up the Bay of Fundy towards the Minas Basin,” the warning reads.
Prince Edward Island
Environment Canada said around 9 a.m. the heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms over northern Nova Scotia began tracking towards the eastern half of P.E.I.
A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for Queens and Kings counties where localized torrential rainfall may happen.
