Thousands of residents are being asked not to use water unless necessary

Thousands of residents served by the Glace Bay water treatment plant are being asked to not to use water unless necessary while water main breaks are repaired.
An emergency alert issued at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday said the disruption is affecting Glace Bay, Dominion, Reserve Mines, Birch Grove, Port Morien, Donkin and Tower Road.
CBRM Mayor Amanda McDougall said there have been two water main breaks of the last two days. She said both breaks have been located and repairs are underway.
MaDougall said there is no estimated time for the repairs to be completed. She said conserving water is the priority for now.
“We don’t want to get to the point that water is not able to be accessed,” she said. “That’s why the conservation at this point is so important.”
She said residents and businesses are being told to expect some discolouration in the water and that there could be low water pressure.
