Halifax Transit is suspending service on dozens of buses on Thursday because of what it called a “potential mechanical issue.”
Earlier on Thursday, a wheel came off a Halifax Transit bus while it was in service, according to a news release from the Halifax Regional Municipality.
“The investigation of the incident found that this was due to faulty equipment used to torque the wheels,” the news release said.
The city said there are currently 43 other buses on multiple routes, including Access-A-Bus, that could be impacted and will be taken out of service “out of an abundance of caution.”
Mechanics are being dispatched to re-torque the wheels, which is expected to take several hours. Regular operations will pick up again once it is safe.
“We recognize the inconvenience this will cause and thank passengers and Operators for their patience,” the news release stated.
