N.S. RCMP investigate copper theft from construction site

Nova Scotia RCMP are investigating the theft of copper from a construction site in Lower Sackville.

Police say thieves entered a fenced area of a site on First Lake Drive, climbed onto a roof, and removed copper tubing from several heating, ventilation and air conditioning units.

RCMP Const. Mandy Edwards said the estimated cost to repair or replace the units is $500,000.

“That figure relates to the actual H-Vac units themselves, whether they need to be completely replaced or if the parts available to fix them are still available to the construction company,” Edwards said.

She said it’s believed the theft happened sometime in the week before Aug. 20, when it was first reported. Police are appealing to anyone who might have video or other information that might help identify the thieves.
