Residents close to the site of the Lake George wildfire in the Annapolis Valley are being told to be prepared to evacuate their homes if needed.
In an emergency alert issued just after 5 p.m. Monday, residents living near the North River Road and Aylesford Road intersection all the way to the G2 Road at Lake George were told to get ready for a possible evacuation.
“Be prepared to take your pets, important documents and enough medication, food and emergency supplies,” the alert said. “Do not delay if you feel unsafe — leave the area immediately.”
The Kings County wildfire, first reported around 3 p.m. Sunday, was last estimated to be two hectares in size.
In a social media post Monday morning, the Department of Natural Resources said the wildfire was being held and they “were making good progress to get it under control.”
At that time, six people from DNR were on the scene, along with eight local firefighters.
