RCMP in Nova Scotia have charged a Yarmouth County man with historical sex offences relating to two alleged victims, and say there could be more victims.
James “Jim” Roy Fields, 63, of Brooklyn, N.S., was charged on Thursday with two counts of sexual assault, two counts of sexual exploitation and one count of assault.
The charges are from the early 2000s, when Fields operated the Classic Cabs company in Yarmouth.
“Mr. Fields was in the capacity of a known operator of a taxi business,” RCMP Cpl. Mandy Edwards said Friday. “And given that relationship with the community, we believe that there may be more victims as a result of that.”
Edwards said one of the complainants approached police in January and police launched an investigation then. A second complainant also came forward.
“So there is strength in numbers, you know, these instances can be quite traumatic to relive after so much time has passed,” Edwards said. “You’re not alone. There is someone else out there who has been a victim.”
Fields has been released from jail on conditions. The case returns to court on Aug. 11.
